It’s so exciting! Raf’s exhibition opens on Saturday and he is busy installing his ceramic pieces in the two rooms of the Focal Point Gallery. For the past three months Raf has been working on these pieces and now everything is coming together. The display is not static, but will be changed daily at 1pm when the pieces are moved around. Ceramic loaves of bread, pickle jars and eggs from the cupboards on the wall can be removed and inserted into slots in the central installation. I was sorely tempted to have a little play with the pieces myself – but what if I dropped one?
Meanwhile the role of the Contemporary Elders is becoming clearer. Our performance piece on the Opening Night involves following Raf’s score to walk around his central installation for around five minutes then melt into the audience before a Polish performance artist comes on to move the blocks of the central installation into a new formation before she moves around it to her own music. Raf’s work is changing all the time. Even after the Opening Night, his display will still be evolving as Raf interprets his vision.
With the theme of regeneration in mind , Gwen deconstructed a pair of jeans and a couple of denim jackets to reassemble them into a really stylish outfit.
The buzz and energy generated by an artist’s creativity is simultaneously energising and draining. After spending the morning with Raf I needed the afternoon to recover and recuperate, recharging my batteries.
